Green circles and green plant line art

Audio Soul Project (aka Mazi Namvar) is back on vinyl with his first EP of original music since 2010. The Chicago producer returns to his roots with Green Again. This record features four cuts that draw influence from Chicago’s storied past. The EP leads with a shuffling chord-heavy chugger littered with disembodied vocal chops, followed by a twisted and tweaked out disco dub. The B-side contains two acid tracks. The first brings together a cauldron of heavy vibes with earie chords, an inquisitive old school vocal, syncopated acid squelches, and a keyboard lick that might remind you of the classic TV show X-Files. The last cut is a back to basics winding mid-tempo acid builder, created using dusty Roland gear. The last track is what happens when a 909, 808, 303, and a spoken word get shook up on a hot Summer day.

The artwork for this release is created by Chrissy Laing. Laing first draws her illustrations by hand and then transfers the images to each record jacket using manual screen printing. She has mixed and remixed a duo tone color process every few records, producing a result that ensures each jacket is unique. The 12” record for this release is pressed using solid white and translucent green vinyl. Each record cover is finally hand numbered – limited to only 200 copies.

Some say we need to understand our past to make plans for the future. This record is a meditation on the fundamentals. This is Audio Soul Project stepping back into the music world after an 8-year hiatus – this is the foundation, the first step on ASP’s new journey.
